    Lets Get Physical

    # 2013-03-07 13:44:25, 跑馬地 - The Valley
Enjoying a glass or two of Zinfandel over at the Wanchai California Vintage recently when the subject turned to gold and silver bullion. Friend Diane suggested it's "Much better to get physical". I tend to agree but wasn't quite sure where to buy physical bullion in Hong Kong. Dianne buys hers from Lee Chong Gold Shop (pictured above) (6...

    Don't Mind The Gap

    # 2013-02-06 21:21:17, 跑馬地 - The Valley
A gap appears at 25 Wong Nai Chung Road, near the Happy Valley tram terminus. I wonder what will emerge in it's place? The answer is provided on a planning application posted on the gate. It looks like the owners are proposing to build a 23 storey/68 room hotel on the site. What an excellent idea. I normally encourage visiting family and...

Dim Sum Happy Valley Hong Kong Closing Down

    # 2013-02-06 21:03:13, 跑馬地 - The Valley
07 Feb 2013: Wrong again! A restaurant that is almost identical to Dim Sum has appeared in the same space. Is it the same owners renovating (unlikely) or new owners taking advantage of the restaurants history and traffic flow (likely)

    Gridlock

    # 2013-02-05 00:50:20, 跑馬地 - The Valley
Message to self: avoid the tram like the plague after 6:00PM. So far, it's taken 40 minutes to get from the Happy Valley tram terminus to Queens Road East. Ouch!

Qatar Business Class Deals to Europe

    # 2012-11-30 03:14:34, 跑馬地 - The Valley
Very competitive business class deals to Europe & back. Around US$2,000 plus tax. Nice to see the Qatari's offering more realistic prices.

    SF Express

    # 2012-11-29 03:38:17, 跑馬地 - The Valley
My wife sends parcels of clothes across town all the time. She uses a local courier company called SF Express (852 2730 0273 www.sf-express.com ). Yesterday they picked up two packages about a kilo each and it cost me (notice how I get to pay) HK$60. This seems pretty good value for someone to run something to the other side of Hong Kong...

    Good Article in the SCMP

    # 2012-11-17 17:46:43, 跑馬地 - The Valley
Charmed Life In The Valley of the Graves by Jennifer Ngo (South China Morning Post, 21 September, 2012, Neighbourhood Sounds series) Pretty decent article. I learned a few things: we have six cemeteries in Happy Valley and the population is 13,228 (2011 census)

    Frozen in Time

    # 2012-11-17 17:43:02, 跑馬地 - The Valley
For the first time that I can recall, there isn't a line of people queuing up outside of the Woo Hing Hong Frozen Meat shop (Shop A, G/F, Sung Lan Mansion, No. 37 Leighton Road, NOS. 17-21

    PCCW Offensive

    # 2012-09-16 16:29:21, 跑馬地 - The Valley
PCCW start the week with two full page adds in the South China Morning Post. Does this mean we might get a better deal on our phone usage or will the change just mean more PCCW grief?

Flight Centre Lands in The Valley

    # 2012-05-27 22:34:29, 跑馬地 - The Valley
A shiny new Flight Centre shop just opened in Happy Valley (G/F , 8 Sing Woo Road). I'm pleased to see an Australian company making an aggressive expansion into the Hong Kong market but I'm not convinced they will make it pay. Hong Kong is an expensive place for retail shops. I'm guessing this shop ...

Digital Radio in The Bathroom Bunker

    # 2012-05-25 23:40:49, 跑馬地 - The Valley
Our bathroom could easily double as a bomb shelter. Two foot thick concrete walls, noise and moisture proof - you get the idea. So when I try and listen to the radio while taking a shower my FM radio struggles to pick up a signal. Not that there's much to listen to but it is
