It was touch and go at
the weekend for our semi-regular tennis four but in the end we got a decent
workout and something of an education on the Hongkie mindset to boot. Touch and
go, I say, not just because of the weather, but because I had forgotten to book
the court for our two-hour stint, and only remembered just before one o’clock,
when the management offices closes for lunch. Fortunately, my blushes were saved when one of the two courts
was still available for the required time slot of 3-5pm. A quick bite of lunch
and I was back downstairs at 2.45pm to clear the puddles off Court A with the
squeegee thing. Just before 3 o’clock a chap turned up and started to mop up
Court B. He’d got half the playing surface done when his partner turned up. However,
instead of clearing the other half of the court, the newcomer had a brief chat
with his mate and wandered over to me.“Which court are you on?”
